Deibert provides students with a truly unique means of studying environmental issues. The generous donation of 70 acres of land to the City of Florence by Dr. and Mrs. Deibert provides students with a truly unique means of studying environmental issues. This program sponsors are The Joel R. Anderson Family Foundation and Alabama's Legacy: Partners in Environmental Education. Dates are limited! If possible, please schedule your visit at least 3 weeks in advance. The months of April and May book early so please CALL first (256-765-0500). Prior to calling, have 2 or 3 dates in mind. We also need to know an approximate number of students, teachers and possible chaperones. Even though we don't open until 10:00 a.m., we can take field trips as early as 9:00 a.m. but you must call first to see about availability. Group Admission Fees Cancellation Policy If you must cancel your field trip, please do so at least 2 days in advance. General Information The museum is accessible to the handicapped. If any of your students have special needs, please notify the staff on arrival. Students are divided into rotation groups upon arrival. Please choose one of the following 2 tracks when making your reservation: 1) Pond Ecology Come explore the three ponds at Deibert Park. We will investigate the flora and fauna in each pond and discuss what factors would contribute to the variations discovered between each pond. Then, we will investigate the impact human activity has had on our water sources. 2) Habitat Investigations Explore different environments of Deibert Park: Forest, Pond, Grasslands, and Parking Area. We will investigate the flora and fauna at each site. Then we will discuss how environmental factors, such as temperature, population density, and human activity can affect plant and animal populations. Course of Study Guidelines Course of Study Guidelines for the program will vary depending on age, topic and time restraints. Guidelines that will be met in every program are the following: Deibert Park has a wonderful playground and pavilion for your use. Restroom facilities and benches are available but there are no tables. Many school groups that come to the museum take advantage of the park and enjoy lunch and playtime there as it is only a brief walk from our facility. The pavilion is available on a first come, first serve basis. |
